Renewable Energy for the Home
The Renewable Energy Roundup highlighted several alternative energy resources for homeowners. While solar energy is my personal favorite, my husband has long had a fascination with wind energy. Perhaps this comes from his first hand experience with the constancy of wind in the Texas panhandle.
I must admit, there’s something beautiful about windmills.
The photo above is of the windmill design I’m accustomed to. This turbine is smaller than the ones you see on wind farms. However, it’s perfect for a home site.
Here is a different design.
So if you wanted your windmill to have a different look, the one in the photo above may be for you.
I did attend a seminar about wind energy. Here’s a statistic for you. Economic payback time for a 4-10 Kilowatt windmill is 6 – 18 years. And you really need wind speeds at least 10 mph for the windmill to produce.
Maybe we will get a windmill later on. I do find them beautiful.
But given all the sunshine we live with here in South Texas, first we will exhaust all our solar options. Besides, solar panels have no moving parts requiring maintenance!
