Take Advantage of Solar Energy Today

While installing a complete solar energy system today can be costly, there are simple ways you can take advantage of solar energy without buying a whole set of solar panels for your home.

Perhaps the simplest way is to dry your clothes on a clothesline.

This New York Times article discusses the use of a clothesline as a tactic in the fight against global warming. However, as the author notes, you may have to hide your energy saving strategy from your homeowners association.

Laundrylist.org is full of information of various advantages of using solar energy to dry your laundry. Read their blog if you start to feel lonely at your own clothesline.

If you or someone in your house are like my children who regard line-dried bath towels as pre-shower exfoliates, here’s a tip for you.

Add about one-quarter cup white vinegar to your wash cycle along with your laundry detergent. While this won’t give your towels the same super-soft fluff they get from the dryer, it helps.
